Preserving History with Modern Luxury: A Custom Home in East Hampton, NY

There's a certain allure to the Hamptons that captivates the hearts of those seeking a blend of elegance, tranquility, and coastal charm. Right at home in East Hampton, this custom-built home is a harmonious fusion of classic styling and modern amenities. As the builder on this project, our goal was to pay homage to the craftsmanship and spirit of the historic homes in the area while satisfying the owners' desire for additional space to entertain and accommodate guests. Join us on an exclusive house tour of this East Hampton home.

In the spirit of architect Alfred Scheffer

Architect Alfred Scheffer's legacy lives on within the walls of this East Hampton home. As the architect of the original home on the property, known for his cozy beachside bungalows, the owners wanted to keep his spirit alive in their new build. Along with Wettling Architects, we set out to build a residence that seamlessly blended classic design elements with contemporary luxuries.

The exterior: Alaskan yellow cedar shake

The exterior is clad in Alaskan yellow cedar shake, chosen for its durability and that classic look that complements the historic homes in the area. Cedar shake is an art form and our artisans nailed a perfectly imperfect pattern with a clean, modern yet effortless feeling that mirrors the East Hampton lifestyle.

Inside: Indulging in Modern Comforts

As we step inside, you see elements that feel ultra modern and ones that feel like they’ve been there forever. The exposed beams are a Hamptons classic, but the kitchen is all custom from the cabinets built in our in house millwork shop to the hidden kick-plate step stools and soft close drawers.

The heart of the home boasts a magnificent double-sided fireplace, serving as a focal point that connects multiple living spaces. One can truly appreciate the level of craftsmanship that went into this custom home when admiring the details. From seamless installation creating an illusion of continuity that blurs the line between tile and slab to the carefully planned and hidden HVAC vents. Then, step upstairs via the timeless white spindled staircase that’s a show-stopper on it’s own. The mastery of our artisans shines through in every element. This meticulous attention to detail is our signature and is felt throughout the home. As always, we’re very proud to say that all the millwork was custom built in our in house millwork shop.

Relax out back

Slip into the gunite pool which is as modern and timeless as everything in this build. Enjoy dinner on one of two porches surrounded by custom built columns, en plein air or screened in. The grounds feature the work of local landscape architect and native plant expert, Brady Mitchell Anderson, making it feel both luxurious and at home amongst the grasses and dunes of the South Fork.

As the sun sets over the tranquil landscape of East Hampton, this custom-built home stands testament to the seamless blend of classic styling and modern amenities. The residence pays homage to the architectural heritage of the area, while the interior exudes elegance and comfort with its carefully designed features. This East Hampton residence showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of our team, as we strive to bring our clients' visions to life. Whether inspired by the past or embracing the future, our commitment to excellence remains unwavering, crafting homes that are as timeless as the Hamptons themselves.
